If the new set of rumors originating from a trust-able source AllthingsD are to be believed, the next-gen iPhone would be announced on 4th October at an Apple event. Now, Apple is yet to announce any thing, however ATD has a good track record and then the man, Steve Jobs himself has landed at AllthingsD conferences multiple times.
Apple has delayed the announcement of iPhone 5 (compared to its yearly cycle) and has spoken nothing about it so far. Multiple rumors about this delay are out, ranging from two new iPhones to Japan quake. Give Android’s recent rise, Apple’s challenge with the iPhone 5 has grown. What adds hope to iPhone 5’s performance is the fact that it would launch for both Verizon and AT&T (and perhaps T-Mobile / Sprint as well) together. It is also expected to go on sale with China Mobile, the words largest telecom carrier operating in China. iPhone 5 would also debut iOS 5 along with iCloud. The phone is rumored to be featuring the A5 processor and a 8MP camera.
Post Jobs Era
After Steve Jobs resignation, Tim Cook has taken over as the CEO and this would be his first major launch. People are still guessing if Tim Cook would come out himself to announce the product or Steve would show up. Many also believe that Phil Schiller might host the Apple event. No matter who does that, comparisons are bound to happen and this might well set the tone for future. If it is Cook, it wont be his first, Tim Cook has previously announced the Verizon iPhone 4 in January.
Apple might also reveal the 5th generation iPod touch and new iPods at the same event. For now, all we can do is wait and watch for Apple’s announcement.
